The building that houses the High Commission of Papua New Guinea takes the form of 'Haus Tambaran' or Spirit House. Traditionally, the Haus Tambaran was a meeting place for tribal elders. It was also a storehouse for sacred objects. The vivid gable depicting stylised images of clan ancestors was painted by students from the National Art School in Port Moresby.
The High Commission in Australia aims to provide a wide range of information on PNG and its relations with Australia, on investment, trade and tourism. It also provides information on the services offered to PNG and Australian citizens by the High Commission and consular establishments in other parts of Australia.
