A living part of Melbourne's modern Chinatown, the Chinese Museum was established in 1985 to document, preserve and display the history of Chinese Australians since the mid 1800's.

Five levels of galleries showcase artefacts and photographs, depicting the stories and culture of Chinese Australians. The Chinese Museum is the home to Dai Loong, the world's largest dragon.

A range of changing exhibitions, audiovisual presentations, heritage tours and public seminars are some of the ways by which Australia's Chinese community shares its past and its culture through the museum.

As the Chinatown Visitor Centre, the Chinese Museum provides an orientation to Melbourne's Chinatown. Take a self-guided tour of Chinatown ($10 adult, $8 concession) or a personally guided Chinatown tour - for groups of more than 8 people - from the Visitor Centre ($9 adult, $7.50 concession, $6 child).

You can also take your kids to the Museum and experience the history and culture of Chinese Australians. Just $3 buys a treasure map. Explore the Finding Gold exhibition, learn the truth about dragons and meet the Millennium Dragon in the Dragon Gallery. Answer the questions as you follow the treasure map and win a prize at the end!
