The Crystal Kingdom Mineral Museum was the first of its kind in Australia to display minerals and fossils from the local area only. It was opened in 1974. The Crystal Kingdom was purchased by Wolfgang and Nola Bredereck in 1997.
Having been keen mineral and fossil collectors for many years, they have added new local fossils to the collection and are constantly updating the display as new minerals and fossils are found.
In the early 1960's, Brian and Janet Head and their family came from South Australia to buy a farm near Coonabarabran in NSW. One day someone arrived at their place and asked permission to go fossicking.
They said "what for?". This person then showed them the treasures they had on their farm. They then dug up the beautiful Zeolite crystals that are now the "Minerals of the Warrumbungles", and are on display in the Crystal Kingdom.
