Gaden Hatchery, on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne, is one of Australia's main centres for breeding and rearing of cold water sport fish.
Four species of fish are produced at Gaden: Atlantic salmon, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Visitors can view feeding of the big fish that come to the surface in some of the brood stock ponds, watch a 10 minute video that outlines the hatcherys purpose and operations, and go for a walk around the hatchery grounds with one of the experienced hatchery staff. Guided tours of the hatchery are conducted 10am and 2pm daily.
Gaden Hatchery has over one hectare of parkland on the banks of the Thredbo River. Coin operated barbecues and picnic shelters are available. Fishing is not permitted at the hatchery.
Individuals, school and group visitors are all welcome. A small entry fee applies.
Visitor Centre Open 10.00am - 4.00pm daily. Guided tours depart daily at 10am and 2pm. Closed ANZAC Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
