Capercaillie Wine Company was established in the Hunter Valley in 1995. Specialising in chardonnay and traminer, the vineyard produces consistently excellent wines. Capercaillie's ambition is to remain a small, family owned business which is focused entirely upon the creation of premium quality wines. To enhance the range of individual Hunter Valley wines, owner Alasdair Sutherland has chosen select parcels of grapes from other proven regions of Australia, creating exciting multi-area blends which highlight climatic and varietal differences.

In the 10 years since the winery was established, Capercaillie has built a firm customer base in the domestic and export markets and has gained a reputation as a quality producer with many award winning wines. The regional blends and distinctive styles, combined with Alasdair's 30 years experience in the industry form an interesting and unique range of premium wines.

Getting There: The Hunter Valley, birthplace of the Australian wine industry, is just 250km (2 hour drive) north of Sydney. Capercaillie Wine Company is situated in Lovedale on the eastern side of Hunter Valley Wine Country. When entering the Valley from Sydney along the F3, follow the well sign posted drive into the vineyard area. Just 10 minutes north of Cessnock on Allandale Road/Wine Country Drive, take a right turn into Lovedale Road (just before the Visitor Information Centre) then right onto Londons Road to find the winery.
Awards: For the 4th consecutive year Capercaillie Wine Company has been awarded the trophy as winner of the Tourism Category at the NSW Champion of Champions Small Business Awards. When the Champions' judging panel evaluate each entrant, they look at all aspects of the business including its success, standing in the community, approach to staff and support of local community organisations and initiatives.
