You will be welcomed by the Rowe family - Peter and Derek when you visit the unique Underground Potteries. View the finished work in the gallery and see how the pottery is made in their studio.
In 1966 Peter Rowe with a friend visited Alice Springs and fell in love with the outback and decided to make it his home. In early 1967 Peter and his mate ended up in Coober Pedy to try and find their fortune. In December of that year Peter returned to Melbourne to marry Konnie, and after working up a grub stake, returned to Coober Pedy to continue their search for the elusive opal. In 1982 Peter was introduced to pottery and became fascinated by the craft and the challenge it presented. Konnie and Peter converted their underground home into a studio and gallery.
The view from Underground Potteries overlooks Coober Pedy's famous grassless golf course and outback race track, towards the panoramic view of the township and dugout ridges. People have visited the Underground Pottery from all parts of Australia and the world.
