Designed by Rev. John Flynn, construction of Adelaide House began in 1920. The unique design used a cellar with air ducting leading up into the building to provide cool air in summer.

It was opened in 1926 and served as the Australian Inland Mission bush hospital until a government hospital was opened in 1939.

Today Adelaide house is a museum housing artefacts, photos and pedal radio equipment used by John Flynn and Alf Traeger in opening up the outback.
