The Old Gum Tree in Glenelg was chosen by Governor Hindmarsh as a backdrop against which he read the proclamation that formally established the new province of South Australia on 28 December 1836.

The Trail starts from the Bay Discovery Centre, Glenelg Town Hall, Moseley Square, Glenelg. Find the answers to the brainteasers by exploring the multimedia exhibition-learn about the Voyage of the Africaine, Colonel Light, the Old Gum Tree and the Big Dipper, watch films of days gone by at the beach!
