Goondiwindi was made famous by the efforts of the great grey racehorse, "The Goondiwindi Grey", as he was affectionately known, won the hearts of the Australian racing futurity and he is still fondly remembered today. People from all parts of Australia visit Goondiwindi simply to see the statue of "Gunsynd". There have been poems and songs written about this great horse and his legend lives on.
Because of this great horse "Gunsynd", racing in Goondiwindi has become very popular and well attended. The manicured lawns and gardens at the Racecourse make racing a beautiful setting for racegoers.
Most meets have five to six races, with bookmakers on course, Sky channel to view the Interstate racing and food and bar operating. The event starts at approximately midday and concludes at approximately 6 pm
