The Wondai Shire Regional Art Gallery was opened in 1999 in the refurbished Wondai Station Master's residence, right on the main roundabout in the heart of Wondai township. This bright, modern, air-conditioned gallery has quickly become a hub of the Shire's artistic and cultural life.
It offers regular monthly exhibitions and an innovative "Art on Poles" outreach program which is gradually seeing original artworks mounted on distinctive red poles at strategic locations throughout Wondai Shire.
It also hosts the annual Pioneer Permanent Acquisitive each May (the only acquisitive art exhibition held in the South Burnett) which attracts entries from as far afield as the Sunshine Coast, the North Burnett and western Queensland. And it's a focal centrepiece of the week-long Wondai Arts Festival, held each October.
The Gallery is a fully accredited regional gallery and received a special commendation in the Heritage and Tourism section of the 2001 Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism Awards For Excellence.
