Rottnest Channel Swim is an annual event conducted by the Rottnest Channel Swim Association with the aim to promote interest in swimming across the Rottnest Channel.
The swim was first conducted as an event in 1991 and has captured the imagination of the Western Australian public and ocean swimmers worldwide.
The event is a 19.2 kilometre swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island and is one of the world's largest open water swims with the 2004 event attracting 2303 swimmers.
Not reserved for the swimming elite, competitors can choose to swim as individuals, duos or teams of four.
