Things to do: Tamworth is the Country Music Capital of Australia and has hosted the Australasian Country Music Awards for over 20 years. Thousands of country music fans flock to Tamworth in January each year for the 10 day festival. Country music stars are honoured in a number of special sites. Some have left impressions of their hands at the Hands of Fame corner in the cwa Park. Nearby, the Country Collection building features a Wax Museum of country music stars and a rock and mineral display. Tamworth has a population of over 35,000, and is the commercial center of the Peel Valley. There is plenty to keep you entertained, with two golf courses, museums and galleries with works by notable Australian artists, and magnificent waterways in the nearby hinterland.
