Things to do: Situated 26kms north of Eden and nestled between the mountains and the sea, Merimbula has a multitude of attractions to offer. Enjoy the mild weather and sunny days of Merimbula with walks along the many beaches and boardwalks. Dine in the area's delightful cafes and restaurants whilst watching the water. In recent years Merimbula has become a major Whale-watching destination. This section of the coast has been identified as a feeding ground for several species of whales during their southern migration. Daily sightings here at Short Point are common and guests in the park have witnessed spectacular acrobatic displays from their cabins. Cruise boats operate daily during whale watching season ensuring you get a close view of these magnificent creatures. The whales disappear back to Antarctica but the dolphins stick around all year and they love surfing in the wake of the cruise boats. A sunset dolphin cruise in the bay is a magical experience.
Getting There: From Melbourne Merimbula is approximately 650kms from Melbourne along the Princes Highway. There are numerous rest areas along the way. From Sydney Depending on your departure point, there are two ways to travel to Merimbula from Sydney, either straight down the Princes Highway or via the Hume Highway to Canberra then cutting across to the Monaro Highway and down to the coast. From Canberra An easy run down the Monaro Highway to join the Princes Highway at Bega takes approximately 3 hours from Canberra. See the notes for the Hume Highway route from Sydney for interesting places to break your journey. Countrylink run a daily bus service from the Jollimont Centre to Merimbula.
