Southern Encounter Aquarium & Kiwi House

Southern Encounter will take you on a journey of discovery showcasing the marine and freshwater aquatic species found within and around the South Island of New Zealand. Located within Cathedral Square, in the heart of Christchurch, this attraction features a Kiwi House and Tuatara exhibit as well as over 120 species of fish and invertebrates - all within walking distance of many inner city hotels.

Observe sharks, rays, massive eels and many unusual sea creatures including seahorses, crayfish and octopus. Experience interacting with a range of invertebrates in the Touch Tank. View native freshwater fish, feeding and an aquarist interacting with marine life.
