More Features

Whether you are an accomplished fisher or never held a rod in your life, you'll enjoy a day out on the Manutere, with a skipper who does his very best to find the fish for you to catch.

If you're here on your own, with a friend or looking for an outing for a group, Tauranga Marine Charters can accommodate your plans as the vessel can take up to 20 fishers comfortably for a day trip. You will be bottom fishing for tarakihi, snapper and trevally among other table fish or try your hand at jigging for kingfish. Passage to Mayor Island is an option in the summer months.

An array of marine life is usually encountered on the way out to the fishing grounds. A wide variety of seabirds including Shearwaters, Petrels, Gannets, Cape Pigeons and Penguins. Porpoises and dolphins are regularly encountered with sightings of orca and whales as an occasional bonus. You can join the boat at the Bridge Marina which has loads of free secure parking or the Mount, Salisbury wharf in Pilot Bay.

Further Information
Never fished before? Great!, the skipper would love to teach you how. It makes his day when he can teach you to enjoy fishing for the first time and catching enough dinner to take home for the family. The destination varies depending on which areas are producing the most fish. The outlying reefs are regular destinations, the Penguins, Astrolabe reef, the Pinnacles and the Okaparus, with the offshore islands of Motiti and Tuhua (Mayor) also being regular fishing areas. On the way back to Tauranga, you can fillet your fish, or have the deckhands assist, as they are more than happy to show you the ropes. If you are looking for accommodation while in the area, please ask as we are in contact with all levels of providers. Gift vouchers are available for all types of trips.

Getting ThereThe MV Mauntere is berthed at the Harbour Bridge Marina (Mount side of the harbour Bridge) at Pier D34. Parking is free. If you are coming over the Kaimais, go through Tauriko to the roundabout at the bottom of the hill and turn left onto the toll road (will cost $1 per car) and follow the signage to Mount Maunganui. This will take you to the roundabout at the foot of the harbour bridge - turn right to cross the bridge and then take the next left into the Marina carpark. Pier D is close to the restaurant. If travelling through Waihi, stay on SH 2 then once through Bethlehem take the Mount Signs as above. If you are going to join the boat at Mt Maunganui, we depart from Salisbury wharf in Pilot bay.
