Five Senses Eco-Survival courses and Tours bring Orkney's ancient sites to life by also showing you the ancient crafts - skills like making fire by friction, just rubbing two sticks together.

Then you then get to try it yourself: Learn the crafts that stone age settlers to the Orkney Islands needed to create the giant stone circles. Understand how they built villages like Skara Brae, and chambers like Maeshowe - because you will get to understand the world they lived in.

Courses can be from 2 hours to a week. You will learn: Fire by Friction, Natural Cordage, Wild Foods, Primitive Shelters, Stone Tools, Natural Navigation, Wilderness Skills, Survival Skills.

Tours are also about fully experiencing the present - stimulate your taste buds with homemade and local foods, visit crafts folk like potters, silversmiths and artists in their workshops.

Tours
Five Senses also specialise in going "off the beaten track" to visit special places other tours either cannot reach or miss. This is possible by only traveling in small numbers (max 6) in a private car, and walking too wherever you want. The main places are also fantastic, so you can visit these too: Skara Brae, Maeshowe, Ring of Brodgar, Stenness Standing Stones, Barnhouse Neolithic Village, Birsay Pictish & Viking Village, Broch of Gurness, Kirbuster Farm, Old Man of Hoy, Dwarfie Stane, Scapa Flow, Hoy, Unstan Tomb, Cuween Hill Cairn, Tomb of the Eagles, St Magnus Cathedral, Stromness Town, Yesnaby Cliffs, Knap of Howar (oldest house in Europe).
Further Information
Tours also regularly visit the Shetland Islands and the rest of Scotland, with bespoke tours and private courses, Rites of Passage special events (a better version of team building) and events for schools and youth groups. If you are interested in any of this, feel free to contact us. We are delighted to share our knowledge and create events to suit your experience and confidence.
