The Globe Theatre is an authentic reconstruction of the open-air playhouse designed in 1599, where Shakespeare worked and for which many of his greatest plays were wrote. The theatre season runs from May to September with productions of the work of Shakespeare, his contemporaries and modern authors.
Each year the Globe Theatre Company rediscovers the dynamic relationship between the audience and the actor in this unique building. The Globe also welcomes international theatre companies to share the impact Shakespeare's plays have had worldwide. Today, audiences of this 'wooden O' sit in a gallery or stand informally as a groundling in the yard, just as they would have done 400 years ago.
Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition is the world's largest exhibition devoted to Shakespeare, which brings his world to life through interactive displays and re-enactment and highlights Sam Wanamaker's struggle to rebuild the Globe. Watch a sword fight, join the cast, see a printing press in action or find out how actors dresses and special effects were produced.
You don't have to be a theatre goer to visit Shakespeare's Globe restaurant, cafe or coffee shop. With spectacular panoramic views across the River Thames, St Paul's Cathedral, and the authentically reconstructed Globe theatre, these are wonderful venues for eating and drinking all year round.
