Quenby Hall lies 7 miles east of Leicester and is a perfect and unspoiled example of a Jacobean country house. It was built by George Ashby in the 1620's. Amidst ancient cedars and beeches, it commands magnificent views of the countryside, in the secluded setting of 1400 acres of gardens, parkland and farm.
The true Stilton cheese was made here by the housekeeper. It was sold by her daughter who lived at the popular staging inn at Stilton, on the Great North Road: the rest is history.
Quenby is the private home of the de Lisle family and has been extensively restored, making it exceptionally warm and comfortable whilst remaining true to it's Jacobean style, with beautiful panelling, plaster and stonework and other architectural features. It is not open to the public and is available for exclusive hire for meetings, weddings and special events and as a film location, and pheasant shooting is available on the estate.
