I take the position of confidante and adviser. Someone you can speak to on your level. Someone you may be explicit with, with no need for secrets or diplomacy. Who you can say whatever you wish to in complete confidence, without it impacting any existing relationships you have to sustain.

I operate from a viewpoint outside your current known environment. A place within which you can bounce ideas and thoughts without fear of judgement or impact on your current situations. Unless, of course, you choose to act on our discussions. By the way, you almost certainly have no-one you can currently do this with.

I will consider what you say...I will reflect back what you are saying and the logical consequences. I will feed back information, options, provocation if necessary. So that you can generate a decision. Or consider that which you weren't already aware of, to illuminate the position you hold.
