First Rate Sail

First Rate Sail is a family-run sailing holiday business based in Penzance, Cornwall. The good ship Ruth is a beautiful 91-year-old Baltic Trader. We specialise in sailing voyages in Brittany, the Seine Bay area off Normandy, Ireland, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Ruth also attends traditional maritime festivals such as Paimpol and Douarnenez. Ruth sleeps nine passengers and four crew in twin and single cabins, providing a level of privacy unusual in large traditional vessels. A sailing trip on Ruth will suit those seeking adventure at an enjoyable pace with an intimate, friendly atmosphere. Great food, great company, fantastic destinations.

Ruth was built in the Rää Shipyard in Sweden in 1914. She was baptised 'Ruth', by the owner Sven Petter Persson, after his wife. Her home port was Fortuna, Sweden from where she operated as a coastal trader with cargoes of ceramic pots and stoneware, delivering for a famous Swedish company called Höganas.
