Tonbridge Castle is set in the Kent countryside and with views of the river Medway is a great day out for all the family.
Tonbridge Castle is a great example of a Motte and Bailey castle with a 13th century Gatehouse, nestling by the River Medway and surrounded by beautiful gardens. In 1066 when William the Conqueror came to England he needed to house his men securely. The Norman Lord Richard Le Clare was placed in charge of building Tonbridge Castle. The castle was largely destroyed in the English Civil War when a manor house was added that now functions as a tourist information centre.
Thanks to recent renovations Tonbridge Castle is looking better than ever. Audio tours are available in several languages and guided tours are available for pre-booked groups. Lively interactive displays including a slice of 13th Century life enacted with life like figures makes this a day out to be enjoyed by the whole family.
