Designed by William Burges and begun in 1869, Knightshayes Court in Tiverton, Devon, is a rare survival of his work. The rich interiors combine medieval romanticism with sumptuous Victorian decoration and hold many interesting treasures. The smoking and billiard rooms, elegant boudoir and drawing room all give a wonderful insight into the 'high noon' of grand country house life.
A new room is open with original Burges interior designs, featuring Burges furniture and wall-paintings of eighty-three birds. The celebrated garden features a water lily pool and topiary, fine specimen trees, rare shrubs and delightful seasonal colours. Attractive woodland walks lead through the grounds.
