Mother Shipton is England's most famous Prophetess, born over 500 years ago, in a cave beside Knaresborough's mysterious Petrifying Well. Her prophetic visions were known and feared throughout England. The Cave and Well lie at the heart of the Mother Shipton Estate, which is a relic of the Ancient Forest of Knaresborough.

Mother Shipton's Cave and Petrifying Well are the oldest tourist attractions in Britain, first opened in 1630. We welcome you to visit the Cave, the Petrifying Well, the museum, playground and 12 acres of riverside grounds.
