A beautiful historic house set in a glorious landscape of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire. Founded as a monastic house in the late 12th century, Newstead became the seat of the Byron family in 1540 and was home to the poet Lord Byron from 1808 to 1814.
The abbey was originally founded as a monastic house in the late twelfth century and there is still much to explore of its medieval history including the medieval cloisters and the West Front of the priory church. Inside you can see original Victorian room settings and some of Byron's private apartments.
The gardens and parkland at Newstead Abbey cover more than 300 acres with paths that meander past lakes, ponds and waterfalls. The gardens have something to offer in all seasons, with spectacular displays of colour from the rhododendrons in late spring to the Japanese maples in autumn. They are the perfect place for a stroll, a real escape from the hectic pace of city life.
