The Dean Forest Railway operates mainly steam hauled passenger trains between Norchard and Lydney Junction and Parkend through the Royal Forest with intermediate stations at Lydney Town and St Mary's Halt. Allow 2 hours for a round trip of 9 miles.
Steam hauled trains run every weekend - and most days during the summer season - and there are many special events on the railway throughout the year including Friends of Thomas and Santa Specials. On selected Sundays throughout the year the railway operates the 'Royal Forester Luncheon Dining Train', as well as steam loco driving experience courses.
There is a fleet of restored steam locomotives and historic carriages, with a museum, gift shop, cafeteria and free parking at Norchard Station.
The Royal Forest of Dean has extensive public footpaths/cycleways and features many other attractions connected with its historic past.
