One of Europe's finest medieval guildhalls, built 1357-61 and basically unaltered, operates today as a museum. Merchants conducted business and feasted in the superb timbered Great Hall. Below are the Undercroft where they cared for the poor, and the Chapel.
An Audio Tour is included in your visit with full of stories about the merchants, the building and York itself. There are collections of paintings, silver and furniture.
Education groups are welcome - please telephone to book in advance.
The Hall is available for private hire in the evenings and is licenced for civil weddings.
The Hall and its collections are fully accessible with entrance from Fossgate.
