The centre of Abingdon town is dominated by the gracious dignity of the County Hall built between 1678 and 1682 by Cristopher Kempster.

It is one of the finest examples of the architectural style of Christopher Wren. The cellars were used as warehouses, the lower colonnade as a market - as it still is today - and the upper floor as a court room.

Today this fine room houses the town museum and is well worth a visit.
