Within an AONB and offering many excellent walks, the area is a remnant of the once extensive Sandlings heaths, with open tracts of heather and gorse, shady woods, sandy cliffs and beach.
It is an important nature conservation area and home to scarce species like the nightjar, Dartford warbler and ant-lion.
Kite-flying restricted to beach only. Parking restrictions may operate at times of extreme fire risk. Cycling and horse riding on bridleway only.
