Founded in 1232 and converted into a country house c1540, the fine medieval cloisters, sacristy, chapter house and monastic rooms of the Abbey have survived largely intact.
The handsome 16th-century stable courtyard includes a clockhouse, brewery and bakehouse.
The Abbey's naturalistic woodland garden has a fine display of spring flowers and magnificent trees. There is an intimate Victorian rose garden with 18th-century summer house.
Lacock Village, dating back to the 13th-century, remains largely unchanged over the centuries and has many limewashed, half-timbered and stone houses.
