Runnymede is an attractive area of riverside meadows, grassland and broad-leaved woodland, rich in flora and fauna, and part-designated SSSI. It was on this site, in 1215, that King John sealed Magna Carta, an event commemorated by the American Bar Association Memorial and John F. Kennedy Memorial. Also here are the Fairhaven Lodges, designed by Lutyens. On the opposite bank of the Thames from Runnymede lies the important archaeological site of Ankerwycke, an area of parkland acquired by the National Trust in 1998, containing the remains of the 12th-century St Mary's Priory and the Ankerwycke Yew, a magnificent tree believed to be over 2,000 years old.(Runnymede is in the county of Surrey. Postal address as above.) The information given below relates to the Runnymede side of the river. WC only available when tea-room car park is open
