The National Trusts Whipsnade Tree Cathedral attracts many visitors to the historic town of Dunstable in Bedfordshire. Trees and hedges planted in the form of a medieval cathedral were created following the First World War in 'Faith, hope and reconciliation'.
The site contains many tree species and covers over nine acres of beautiful English countryside. The grass avenues form chancel, nave, transepts, chapels and cloisters.
The planting was inspired by a visit to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, then under construction, and by the beauty of a group of trees seen on the way home.
