Wordsworth House provides an opportunity to experience something of the Wordsworths' life in 1770s Cockermouth. Following painstaking research the house has recently been transformed using historic and reproduction items to give a picture of the home in which young William and his sister Dorothy grew up. Visitors are welcome to touch and use items in the 'working rooms' of the house including the fascinating Georgian kitchen. As in any home, there are different activities going on in the house each day and sometimes special events. Costumed interpreters provide an insight into the daily life of the family and their servants. Visitors can enjoy the rare example of a northern Georgian townhouse garden and the Terrace walk where William and Dorothy loved to play. The visitor reception area and the discovery room, with its interactive touchscreens and written material, provide a chance for the whole family to find out more about the house and the early life and inspiration o
