This building thats houses the Silk Museum at Macclesfield, once housed The Macclesfield School of Art. It was built in 1877 to train designers for the silk industry. It now houses exhibitions exploring the properties of silk, design education, Macclesfield's diverse textile industries, workers' lives and historic machinery.
Simple interactives in the galleries demonstrate the theory of weaving silk, design formation and how forces and motion are used to work machinery. An easy to use computer catalogue gives the visitor digital access to over two thousand items of the reserve collection and is supported by a reference section.
