The Walker houses an internationally important collection of art from the 14th to the 20th century. It is especially rich in European Old Masters, Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite pictures and modern British works.

Outstanding works include Simone Martini's Christ Discovered in the Temple and masterpieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Poussin, Gainsborough and Hogarth.

There is an exciting exhibition programme, including Britain's premier painting competition, John Moores exhibition of contemporary painting.
