Opened at The Quays in Trafford Park, Manchester in July 2002 and created to give northern audiences access to the national collections, IWM North focuses on how war shapes lives. Designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind.
Iconic objects: in amongst the hundreds of objects in the Main Exhibition Space you will find 5 major exhibits which each tell an important story. These include the artillery piece that fired the first shell from the British side in the First World War and a fire-fighting trailer pump used in the Manchester Blitz of the Second World War.
Time Line: follow the TimeLine of 20th and 21st century conflict along the gallery walls, featuring key landmark events involving British and Commonwealth citizens from 1900 to the present day.
A team of Museum Interactors are on hand throughout the day to assist and engage with visitors through discussion, workshops, performances and tours.
