Beamish is unique. It's no ordinary museum but a living and working experience of life as it was in North East England in the early 1800s and early 1900s. Most of the buildings you will see here have been brought from across the region and rebuilt within this vast 300 acre site.

In 2005 Beamish was voted "Large Visitor Attraction of the Year" at the Enjoy England Excellence Awards.

New at Beamish in April 2006, Masonic Temple in the Award-winning Town. Explore the fine Masonic Temple where the story of Freemasonry in 1913 is revealed. The only one of its kind in Europe permanently open to the public.

New at Beamish late May 2006, Puffing Billy Steam Locomotive. Steam along behind this wonderful working replica of William Hedley?s famous 1813 steam locomotive.

Info for Disabled: The outdoor and historic nature of the Museum may cause access issues, as the site is large and includes some uneven surfaces and steep slopes. Wheelchairs are available, free of charge, and booking is advisable. There are accessible toilets in most areas. We are able to provide free admission for the assistant to a disabled visitor, please ask for details.
