The Bank of England was founded in 1694 by Royal Charter and the Museum traces its history from foundation through to its vital role in todays economy.

Come and learn about the intricacies of banknote design and discover how banknotes are made. Try and lift a genuine gold bar! See Sir John Soame's 1793 Bank Stock Office, a modern reconstruction of his first major work for the Bank on the original site.

The Business as Usual exhibition is on until 8th September and looks at the life of the Bank of England and its staff during World War II. This special exhibition marks ths 60th anniversary of the end of WWII and illustrates how the work and life of the Bank continued in spite of the Blitz and the evacuation of some offices to locations outside London.
