On the site of the original Clink prison, dating from the 12th Century the museum tells the colourful story of The Bankside and that of The Clink Prison.

Within the museum you come face to face with original torture devices and implements along with the opportunity to torture each other.

Successive Bishops of Winchester owned the prison, from the 12th century until its destruction in 1780, its inmates ranged from priests to prostitutes.

Some of these inmates were involved with many interesting and exciting events in history including the sailing of the Mayflower, assassination attempts on Elizabeth I and many more.

The Prison that gave its name to all others.
