The museum tells the story of the Clearances of Strathnaver described on the walls by the local school children. The museum has a wide range of exhibits ranging from a Neolithic cist and pot dating back to approximately 1800BC to a plastic replica dogskin fishing buoy. In between are ancient carved stones including the Farr Stone (8th century), Pictish stone, situated to the rear of the museum. The museum also houses exhibits of crofting life from bygone days. There is also one room dedicated to the Clan Mackay, one of the oldest clans in Scotland and still the most common surname in the area.
