An atmospheric 17th century inn in the quiet village of Houghton Conquest, just off the A6, 6 miles south of Bedford.
The nine bedrooms in the quiet garden are all double or twin size en-suites with central heating, tea & coffee making facilities, home made biscuits, satellite TV, radio, direct dial telephone with modem, hairdryer & refrigerator. All bathrooms have power showers. Three of the rooms are housed in a converted stable block.
This friendly country inn has many historic associations. When nearby Houghton House (John Bunyan's model for House Beautiful in Pilgrim's Progress) became derelict in the 1700's many parts of the infrastructure found their way in to local buildings. The Knife and Cleaver acquired the magnificent Jacobean oak paneling that covers the walls in the lounge bar.
