Lovely B&B accommodation in Snowdonia, set in the historic Welsh town of Dolgellau "The Clifton" offers guests superb rooms, great food and is well placed to explore the delights of Snowdonia National Park.
At the foot of Cader Idris, Wales' second highest mountain, The Clifton offers a warm friendly B&B welcome to ramblers, mountain bike riders, golfers and fishermen alike.
The Clifton (formerly called Clifton House Hotel) is a historic landmark in the town of Dolgellau. The Restaurant in the cellars was once the Merionydd County Gaol (1730 - 1815) and the house, built in 1820, in the past has been used as a Tavern and Surgeons house.
Today's owners, Geoff & Teresa Challenor have created more convivial surroundings with an informal and relaxed atmosphere yet befitting the original character of the old house with it's wide oak staircase and sometimes sloping floors. - For ramblers the hills abound with fantastic walks. Mountain bike riders have their Mecca in Coed y Brenin just 10 minutes drive away. Golfers are mid way between Royal St David's Golf Club (championship course) and Aberdovey Golf Club and numerous other clubs within an easy drive. Fishermen have the beautiful Mawddach estuary to pit their skills against the salmon and sea trout. All in all a stunning area to visit and a comfortable friendly house in which to stay.

- The Old Count Gaol Restaurant is the pride of the owner with imaginative menus using wherever possible fresh local produce and a range of fine wines. There is a small bar in the restaurant or guests can relax in the resident' lounge with a drink and coffee after dinner.
