The town itself is a fine example of 18th century planning and the Georgian town square has pleasant grassed areas with seating for visitors and residents to sit and relax, enjoying the frequent highland sunshine. The High Street leads off from the square and is a wide main road providing an ample selection of good quality shops and restaurants. In the evening many visitors like to take an evening stroll, but should they require it local live entertainment is on offer within easy walking distance of several of the larger hotels The Grantown musum is well worth a visit, and tells how the town became Scotland's first planned town back in 1765 thanks to the effort of 'the good Sir James'.
