Good pan-African cuisine sets this restaurant apart from some of the more traditional eateries in the center of Windermere. The changing menu lists inventive dishes such as char-grilled ostrich steak carved over thyme-scented mielie (corn) meal topped with gooseberry jam. Culinary influences stretch from Moroccan (tagines, or stews) to South African (bobotie -- minced meat with curry). The decor is sophisticated but refreshingly minimalist, with square wooden tables and natural colours.
Kwela's is a fantastic restaurant which recreates an African atmosphere in the centre of Windermere. The chef is clearly extremely talented, his creations are sublime, the restaurant is comfortable without being overbearng and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Its a must when in Windermere.
