A little off the culinary beaten track, Le Bistrot des Arts is worth a visit to Edinburgh's Southside. Mainly because, once inside this rather romantic smoke and mobile-free zone, you can't help but start to share chef-patron Eric Ortiz's passion for the pleasures of the table.
The room is simple and attractive with timber flooring, pale yellow and vanilla livery, a large central bar and - open for all to ogle - a satisfyingly well-stocked wine rack. The menu changes regularly but always includes irresistible French classics such as fish soup, snails in a butter and tomato sauce, and duck breast.
Desserts are made in-house Service feels personal and helpful just when it needs to be.
