Cube and Star showcases Nuevo Latino cooking on the former premises of the Shoreditch Electricity Showrooms, Hoxton. Today the space looks more of a glamorous nightclub, complete with ornate wood panelling, huge backlit photos of contemporary Havana, sexy music, and a hip crowd. The feel is deliberately pre-Castro. Forget burritos; Gustavo Agreda's menu is a wonderful fusion of European ingredients and South American flavours. Typical dishes include a marinated shrimp ceviche salad served with tropical salsa fresca, and grilled rib eye steak with dry poblana and mulato saffron bearnaise sauce, sweet boniato mash and roasted corn and chimichurri. The house specialty drink, of course, is a perfect Cuban Mojito. An unique, unforgettable place.
