The first Prohibition opened in Leeds in June 2003, followed a year later by another in central Manchester, on St Mary's Street. Hedonistic, influential Mancunians instantly fell for the place. Strong design, great music and exuberant staff all add to a general feel-good vibe. When munchies strike, out come the informal tapas-style platters. Puddings change daily. But what really make this famously funky bar stand out is the drinks, particularly the long list of 'I'll have them all!' shooters and cocktails. Unfinished bottles of spirits can be stored behind the bar and retrieved with a special key on your next visit.
