John Quigley returned to his hometown of Glasgow several years ago after having earned his stripes in some of London's most renowned kitchens, and serving as private chef for rock bigwigs. Red Onion is his own baby, a charming restaurant in the heart of the City.

The onionskin-hued awning and interior details carry the theme through. Mr Quigley himself may well come out to check that all is well, it's a hands-on operation. The menu is maximally eclectic, right for the way we eat today. Open from breakfast through the day.
