Hip and modern but without pretensions, Covent Garden Grill is a terrific modern grill with an international menu right where you want it, in the midst of giddy Covent Garden. The cool interior is done in shades of taupe and mocha, with swooshy big artworks and smart detailing. The bar and ground floor dining attract a pleasant hubbub, while the downstairs restaurant, equally groovy, is more exclusive in feel. Try starter of beef carpaccio with parmesan shavings and rocket, main course of marinated teriyaki salmon with soba noodles, and pud of rhubarb creme brulee, or just give yourself over to a 28-day hung steak of Aberdeen Angus from Inverurie with chunky chips and a glass of big, bold zinfandel.
