So far, Smiths of Smithfield is the only restaurant we know that has a meat list. But hey, it's planted just opposite the Smithfields Meat Market. Hearty breakfasts are available all day until 5pm. Ground floor offerings are also hearty, of the soup and sandwich variety. The dining room serves an eclectic modern British menu. Among the favourites are calzone with crab and spring onion, salmon and haddock fish cake with green sauce. More veggie choices than you'd expect. The kitchen is as organic as possible."The meat here is special. Provenance is featured on the menu - the breed of steer, where it's from, how long the meat has been aged. These steaks are exceptionally good. - © Evening Standard 2003 / Charles Campion" - Critic reviewAverage price - £45 and over (€63+)Vic Naylor 40 St John Street London EC1 This warm, friendly bar is especially popular in winter. The decor resembles an American jazz bar and the place has a great atmosphere.
