Fresh from the success of the original Viktor in St Petersburg, Lubov Shurmer and her daughter have brought to Knightsbridge an exotic, modern Japanese restaurant. Upstairs holds its head high with refinement and attention to detail. The liberally lined-up night lights and bursts of red, black and white graphic design on the walls, wine list and menu - flashes of vivacity in an otherwise grown-up atmosphere are well suited to the local smart set (which includes a Japanese regular, a seal of approval if ever there was one).
The menu includes tiraditos and seviches, but look out for sit-up surprises such as the non-traditional house specials, amongst them new style sashimi and eel and mozzarella sushi! Top of the hot appetizers comes almond honey shrimp tempura, followed by (spot the hint of French) the foie gras special of duck liver marinated in miso. The only tsarist touches come with the caviar generously dolloped on top of your sushi. Oh, the healthiness of it all!
